TUTORIAL: How to Instantly Fix a Photo Using Auto Levels


In this tutorial, I will show you how to instantly make a photo go from "OK" to "Fantastic!". This doesn't work for every photo, but it is a great place to start.





1. Find the photo you would like to improve and open it in Photoshop.




2. From the "Image" menu, choose "Adjustments" and then "Auto Levels". Just follow the numbered items in the image above. In just this one step you can drastically improve many photos...




3. That's it! Simple as 1, 2, 3...

wow - i just today photographed a painting i finished and i just wasn't able to get it. but i downloaded what i had taken anyway. the colors were so muted. but your tutorial really helped! i'm not sure the colors are exactly true to the painting but it looks ions better...thank you!

Great tip...I either use auto levels or if that doesn't work I go and tweak them manually. If anyone has iPhoto you can fix the levels there too.
